Tomorrow Barack Obama will be sworn in as the next president of the United States of America. Our nation and many people around the globe will be watching this historic event and seeing him as the bearer of the world’s hopes and dreams.
I could not feel more compassionate toward this young man if he were my own son. Along with many others, I have been searching my heart and mind for any insights I could share to help us help this courageous individual meet such a huge and complex destiny.
It won’t be easy. According to the news media, we are facing the largest economic crisis in our nation since the Great Depression of the 1930s. And each day’s news is filled with yet more despicable deeds of greed and self-interest, as wells as wars and terrorism that tear at the heart of millions of consciously aware human beings who value honesty, honor, integrity and respect for all life.
I believe that the groundswell of energy that came together around Barack Obama was in response to the cry of humanity for us to dig down deep and retrieve our nation’s spiritual purpose and fulfill its destiny.
The fact that everything in our country seemed to come to a head the closer it came to election time, made the urgency for change so desperate that it could not be denied. As a nation, we will need to draw on all our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual resources to help make this happen.
It still won’t be easy. Most of us realize that no government is capable of making the much-desired changes on its own or all at one time. We also must accept the fact that casting an affirmative vote for Barack Obama was only the first step. We can’t afford to sit back and just wait and watch what happens. This is how we got into this mess in the first place. We must help in any way we can.
Fortunately, there are more conscious and aware human beings on Earth now than at any other time in history. I have written in the past about my belief that many of those alive on Earth at this time were born to help create a new chapter in the history of humanity. Who knew that this would turn out to be “the time”?
Most of us also recognize that love is one of the most powerful energy-forces in the universe. It can cancel out anger, bigotry, greed, hatred, self-interest and all the other ills that plague our world. Many individuals also know that when we turn within and touch even lightly this wellspring of love, our energy vibration is automatically increased. What the world desperately needs right now is an infusion of love, and it has to begin with us loving ourselves and then living from this higher consciousness.
The great Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi said that we must be the change we want to see in the world. If we want to have a sane, loving, balanced and harmonious world, then we have to be willing to change and live those qualities. It starts with us.
There is much we need to do. We must resolve to be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. We need to stay alert and focused and to take responsibility for our lives. In addition to looking after our families and others, we must face each day with faith in the future we are helping to co-create.
We must also monitor our thoughts and the words that come out of our mouths, making sure we remain positive. Repeat daily: All is well. We are divinely guided, guarded and protected in everything we think, say and do. We affirm, accept and expect that harmony, love, peace, prosperity, wholeness and wisdom now manifest on Earth.
Another vital step is to consistently shore up our President and the government as they work for the desired changes. We do this through our own actions, and also by directing positive thoughts and prayers to our nation’s leaders.
It is extremely important that we have the support of other like-minded individuals to stay strong and positive within ourselves. It doesn’t matter whether it comes from a small group of friends, a religious or spiritual organization or a global link with thousands via the Internet, or all the above. The critical need is to be connected with the positive energy of others who share a common intention to help each of us get through this transformative time as easily as possible.
I believe that the deciding factor in whether or not our new president and the government is successful in answering the clarion call for change will ultimately depend on us as individuals. It’s simply time for humanity to take another evolutionary leap in consciousness, and in order to get our attention the crises had to be huge and harsh.
It is reassuring to know that our parents and grandparents went through this after the collapse of Wall Street in 1929, and our country lived through the hard times and prospered. They wanted to make our country a better place for the hopes and dreams of their children and grandchildren. I believe this is an opportunity for another do-over, and hopefully we will get it right this time.
